Everything you need to know about half-day boat tours from Zadar: morning vs afternoon comparison, full itineraries for all stops, what to bring, and how to book.
A half-day boat tour from Zadar is one of the best ways to explore the stunning Zadar Archipelago without committing to a full-day excursion. In just four hours, you can swim in crystal-clear coves, visit uninhabited islands, and return with memories to last a lifetime.
Boat Tour Adriatic operates two half-day tours departing from Obala Kneza Branimira 18: a morning tour (9 AM) and an afternoon tour (4 PM). Each visits the same archipelago but offers a very different experience — this guide walks you through both so you can choose the one that suits you best.
| Morning Tour (9 AM) | Afternoon Tour (4 PM) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sea conditions | Calm, flat water | Light waves, more lively |
| Snorkeling visibility | Excellent | Good |
| Crowds at stops | Fewer people | Busier in peak season |
| Atmosphere | Peaceful, refreshing | Social, festive |
| Highlight | Vivid underwater colours | Sunset return & dinner in Kali |

The morning tour starts at 9 AM. As you leave the Zadar waterfront and sail past the famous Sea Organ, the sea is at its calmest — the water is flat, visibility into the clear depths is at its best, and there are few other boats around.
Your first stop is Ošljak — one of the least populated islands in the entire Adriatic. The boat anchors in a beautiful sheltered cove where you can swim, snorkel, or simply float in the gin-clear water. Snorkeling masks are provided on board.

After Ošljak the tour continues to the charming village of Lukoran on the island of Ugljan. This stop includes restrooms and a well-deserved coffee break at a café right on the waterfront. The crystal-clear water here is perfect for a bonus swim if you want to cool off again.

The final stop is the secluded bay of Uvala Frnaža — a true hidden gem. With calm conditions and almost nobody else around, this is the perfect spot for one last swim before the return journey. The morning light makes the colours of the sea extraordinary here, and the bay is a favourite among snorkelers for its rich marine life.

The afternoon tour departs at 4 PM and offers a completely different energy. The sea is a bit more lively, the social atmosphere heats up, and the tour ends with one of the most spectacular views in Croatia — a Zadar sunset watched from the open sea.
The afternoon tour anchors on the southern, wind-sheltered side of Ošljak — the ideal spot for diving and jumping off the boat. Music plays, laughter fills the air, and cold liqueurs, beers, and sodas are served on board. Snorkeling gear is provided so you can explore the rich underwater flora and fauna.

Next up is Otrić Cove, a calm, rocky bay perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Jumping off the boat into the turquoise water is a highlight for most guests. The late afternoon sun is warm without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed.

Before heading back, the afternoon tour stops in the traditional fishing village of Kali for fresh seafood at Srdela Snack. Think freshly grilled sardines, squid, and local specialties for a very reasonable price — a highlight of the entire tour for most guests.

The cruise back to Zadar at dusk is pure magic. As the sky turns shades of orange and red, you will understand why Zadar's sunsets are world-famous. Alfred Hitchcock once called it the most beautiful sunset in the world — watching it from the open sea takes it to another level entirely.

Cold drinks are included on board: water, soft drinks, beer, and homemade liqueurs.

As the skipper and owner of Boat Tour Adriatic, I have run hundreds of half-day tours. My personal favourite was one afternoon last season with a group of six guests who arrived as strangers and left as friends. We swam at Ošljak, toasted with homemade liqueur, ate fresh sardines in Kali, and watched the sunset on the way home.
One guest told me she had been on my tour as a child, with her parents, and had chosen to return as an adult — that moment filled me with genuine pride. After the tour, we ended up at my local café, Macao, until midnight and even created a WhatsApp group. We still message each other. That is the kind of experience I aim to create on every tour.

Both tours run daily in season (May–October). Choose the option that suits you best:
